Live inventory
Paste tomatoes are in: romas, cherries, Sungold, and Cauralina. Beefsteak is just coming in — we were starting to take it personally. Slicing cukes are limited. Picklers are gone for the year. We underestimated Wisconsinites' love for pickles, which is a little like underestimating snow. Yukon Golds are in. Still quite a few with fresh dirt still on them — perfect for short-term storage, not a winter cellar potato. Beans look good. Peppers of every heat are heavy, plus bells and Italian fryers. Squash and melons are gone for the year. We looked. They are not hiding. Basil is limited, 2 oz bunches. Spring carrots are still in the field. Fall carrots wait until after the first frost, which is when they get actually sweet. Sweet corn is still in the field; we will post it when a thumbnail pops milk, not before. No salsa box: cilantro has a plan, and it does not include this week.

A mixed box of whatever is at peak this morning. Right now that means tomatoes, beans, potatoes, slicing cukes, and peppers — no squash. You do not pick the list. Fastest way to eat with the farm.

From the bean row
Same Dulcina beans, same 75-foot row. Bare soil: three bushels, and they quit. Mowed, residue left, folded in: twelve bushels, plants still setting. Four times the food. That is the argument.
Read the field noteField notes
The harvest board is this week's list. Notes go up when we learned something worth passing on — a practice that worked, or one that didn't.
Practice
A refractometer is not a personality. It is a way to know if a plant is making sugar — and if the dirt is getting better, or just staying busy.
Practice
Same Dulcina, same 75 feet. Bare soil: three bushels. Residue in: twelve — four times the harvest, and the plants are still working.
Practice
Those grains are cocoons, not eggs. The wasp is already on payroll. Leave that one. Pick the ones without rice.
The farm
Around here a half share is six or seven hundred before the first tomato. A $35 box is food you will actually eat, when you can cook it.
